At Wise Med Spa, all injections are performed by Dr. Wise who is currently offering Botox and Dermal Filler injections for a multitude of skin care needs.

What is Botox?Botox is a botulinum toxin medication that is made from bacteria called Clostridium botulinum and Botox is specifically Onabotulinumtoxin A. It acts on the muscles underneath the skin causing a relaxation in the muscle and thus reducing the skins ability to wrinkle. Typically, the effects of Botox occur within 5-7 days and can last approximately 3 months. Repeated injections can reduce wrinkles over time as well as the number of units required to treat. The amount of units needed will depend on the area treated as well as the number of treatment areas. Typical treatment areas are the forehead, between eyebrows or “the eleven line” and crow’s feet but there are many other areas of the face that Botox can treat. Botox is also known to help certain conditions such as Migraine Headaches, excessive sweating and teeth grinding (Bruxism). Dr. Wise will do a complete, free consultation to help you decide what your best treatment may be.

What is a dermal filler?Dermal Fillers are temporary injections that are mostly made of hyaluronic acid (HA) which is found naturally throughout the body such as in joints, eyes and skin. In the skin, hyaluronic acid attracts water which allows the skin to become more hydrated. As we age, the face begins to lose volume leading to a sunken or sagging appearance of the face. Injectable HA can restore this volume and reduce lines and wrinkles with immediate effects. Results and longevity vary but typically last 6-12 months depending on the product and area placed. For instance, filler in the lips may last 6-9 months whereas filler in the nasolabial folds may last 9-12 months.

Can I get both at the same time?YES! Typically, Botox is used in the forehead and around the eyes for crow’s feet and fillers are for various areas of the face such as nasolabial folds, lips, cheeks and jaw line. You may receive both types of injections in one visit if you prefer.
